Meet the Team: Sherrie Drisdell

Sherrie Drisdell

For Sherrie Drisdell, joining GCE Designs has provided more than just a job. It has given her an opportunity to build new skills, gain confidence and contribute to a team where she feels valued and supported.

Sherrie joined GCE Designs in May 2026 as a production assistant. A recent graduate of Pensacola State College with associate and bachelor’s degrees in graphic design, she was searching for a position that aligned with her education and interests through Vocational Rehabilitation. After navigating a challenging job search, GCE Designs offered an opportunity that felt like a natural fit.

“I was looking for work that had to do with graphic design. After so many different job applications, we finally landed on GCE Designs. My job coach said this would be a good start as it has some graphic design skills to it, so that’s when I decided to give it a try. I’m happy that I chose this job because I’m learning a lot of skills that overlap,” Sherrie said.

Since joining the team, Sherrie has enjoyed the variety that comes along with working in production. While much of her day is spent marking shirts for embroidery placement, she enjoys the opportunity to assist with different stations and learn new processes.

“I do a variety of things. Marking shirts is mainly what I do, but if they need me for hooping, doing the final trim or heat pressing, I help out. Whatever job they want me to do, I’m always happy to lend a helping hand,” she said.

This flexibility has allowed Sherrie to develop new skills, put her skills to use, explore different aspects of production and learn what she enjoys doing most.

“My favorite task is final trim, where I use scissors to trim off the excess embroidery backing of the embroidery on the inside of shirts. I find it very relaxing, soothing and calming.,” she said. “I’ve always been a perfectionist, so that really helps here. I’m always trying to be efficient and double-check my work.”

For Sherrie, one of the most meaningful aspects of her experience has been the culture of inclusion and support she has found at GCE Designs. She describes her supervisor as someone who intentionally creates opportunities for everyone to contribute and feel included.

“I like my leader’s inclusiveness. He makes me feel like I’m part of the team. He makes me feel like my job is important and like I am important,” she said. “If someone’s doing work, he always tries to get me involved because I’m a very reserved and quiet person, but he’s always trying to get me out of my shell.”

This inclusivity extends beyond her leader and into the broader work environment. Sherrie says her experience at GCE Designs has helped her feel more confident and supported.

“I have autism and borderline personality disorder. It sometimes causes me to overthink things. I’m especially anxious and nervous around new people. Working here has really helped me with my disability,” Sherrie said. “For starters, it’s a very nice and peaceful atmosphere. I’m not as overwhelmed and anxious. I don’t feel like my feelings are overlooked.”

Most importantly, she feels recognized and valued for who she is and what she contributes.

“I feel like I’m being heard and I’m being noticed. Despite my disability, they still see me as a person. I feel like I’m actually making a difference,” she said.

In the time she’s been with GCE Designs, Sherrie has already made an impact through her willingness to learn, teamwork, attention to detail and positive attitude.
